Exactly what you’d hope would happen.
15 minutes later than expected, over 100 Year 8 students from the adjoining Figtree High School ambled into the church auditorium for an Easter presentation yesterday (Friday). Mark and Heidi (MTC team members) presented a compelling case for the truth of resurrection as well as conveying their joy because of the gospel – all the while managing the time shortage. Some of us felt disappointed that the lost time meant no discussion groups with the kids… David (MTC team member) then shared the response he had made to Jesus in Year 10, and the Figtree Youth team invited the Year 8’s to join them at Friday night Youth Group. Students were fairly attentive, but…

Later the same evening, Figtree Youth had their quarterly “BIG” night – combined year 7-12. About 100 students came and were fed and entertained, but also heard the good news of Jesus from 1 John 4:9-11, as Hamish (MTC team member) explained what real love is. But…
who knows what was happening in their hearts?
BIG night finished in discussion groups with regular Youth leaders. And the year 8 girls’ group were in for a beautiful surprise!
“Two girls wanted to pray the prayer [to ask for God’s forgiveness]”, leader Jordan reported in the team debrief time.
“They’ve both been coming for 2 years!”
The girls who gave their lives to Jesus had first started coming to Youth after an invitation from Scripture class, and had also attended the Year 8 seminar for Figtree students earlier in the day.
“Lord, you know everyone’s heart.” Acts 1:24
Praise the Lord! All the Youth leaders are so thrilled!
Please pray
– that these 2 girls would persevere in following Jesus for the rest of their lives
– that God would continue to raise up faithful Youth leaders for Figtree so that this ministry might continue
– that God would continue to change hearts, that people may accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour
Thank you God!
