Whenever you travel through Christchurch you can’t help but be reminded of the earthquakes. From lumpy roads, building works, concrete reinforcements, empty blocks of land, right up to condemned buildings and ghost suburbs.
Today at St Nicholas in Barrington the Wednesday Women’s Bible Study met for a craft morning. One of the crafts on display used crockery damaged and smashed in the earthquakes to make mosaics. From what was broken, something of beauty could be created.
I hope it will be part of the healing process for this grieving city.
Emma spoke from Matthew 11:28 – 30:
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
We can feel so exhausted with life – with relational, financial or other stress overwhelming us. But we can also feel exhaustion in another way – feeling that we have to work hard to earn God’s favour. Emma reminded us that true peace and contentment in this life, and eternal peace with God comes only through trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Please pray with me that this message brings lasting rest for those who came along.
