Tension has arisen in the Gunnedah team. As one team member put it, a real bone of contention.
It all flared up in our morning catchup. Reflecting on the Boggabri Men and Meat dinner of the previous night, some of the guys were searching for the vocabulary to describe the wonder of seeing a lamb butchered, barbecued then eaten. While the men grinned in gleeful reminiscence, Erin protested, showing sympathy for the little lamb that had died. I told Erin that she really shouldn’t be sad. But alas, the tension was born. Will schism ensue? Time will tell.
The conflict is easily summarised. I liked the lamb dead. Erin wished Lambchops hadn’t been killed. Who is right? Who is wrong? How will we bridge the impasse?
Well maybe the way forward is to recognise that we are both wrong. Maybe our way forward is to recognise that it is a resurrected lamb that we both look forward to. The Lamb of God who died and lived. It is in the risen Lamb of God – in Jesus – that we have common trust, common hope and mutual delight. Maybe focusing on the risen Lamb of God will tear down the dividing wall of hostility that has emerged between me and Erin.
