Team meeting at HQ (Simon’s house) 8am. First item: Simon’s cat is grounded and must not, under any circumstances, be let out of the house… 10 mins later, WHO LET THE CAT OUT?!
We thanked God for his faithfulness on Sunday and spent some time praying for the day ahead. Here’s what went down:
Breakfast club 8:30am: A program that runs all throughout the week and is aimed at kids from disadvantaged homes who don’t eat breakfast before they come to school. The program is run by volunteers from OVACC and the school supports it wholeheartedly. 26 kids came to have breakfast and got invited to this Friday’s Kids club.
Nazareth House 10am: 15 ‘Protestant’ residents from the otherwise majority Catholic nursing home heard a sermon on entering through the ‘narrow door’ and were entertained by musical talents of the Sibrava’s. Other teams members were present to chat to the residents afterwards.
Prep Stuff: a lot of time was spent today getting prepped for the days to come. There were a few hiccups with the printer (Sarah and I ended up being ‘scribes’ at one point and actually tracing over a worksheet by hand to make copies).
There was also a lot of good team work happening with lots of offers of help and ideas being thrown around. The trampoline is a good spot for brainstorming.
Kids Club, Attunga 3pm: Cheryl and Lorraine are two faithful ladies who turn up to the Attunga church hall week after week to serve the community by providing an after school kids club. They run games, provide afternoon tea and most importantly, they unashamedly teach the kids about Jesus. 9 kids from non-churched families turned up this week. Their families are not necessarily on board with ‘church stuff’ but they like the baby sitting opportunity so they let their kids come. The program has been running for 30 years and 5 mission team members were privileged to be a part of it this week.
Team members are continuing to develop relationships with their billets. Conversations over lunch are known to turn to ‘so what did you guys get for dinner last night’ followed by much food envy. We’re getting treated so very well 🙂
PS – we caught the cat.
