The Keith Condie/Cathy Smith chaplaincy group are in Camden this week to serve alongside St John’s Anglican. St John’s runs 6 services every Sunday and we had the privilege of preaching at each one. Thank God for the faithful teaching we received from Moore students Andrew, Ben C, Brian, Ben G, Edwin and Richard.
After the 10am service, I got to know a woman who came from a Catholic background and married a man from an Anglican background. For a season she wasn’t able to attend Sunday services at St John’s so she went to their Thursday Women’s Church instead. Through persistent prayer she was finally able to attend Sunday service with her children after attending women’s church for a few years. Praise God for the ministry of Women’s Church and the encouragement women can receive when unable to attend church on Sundays.
In the afternoon, we all split off to our billet homes and got to know our host families better. We are so thankful for their generous hospitality and for partnering with us in the gospel in this way. It is a real joy to fellowship over the meals they provide for us and form friendships with our brothers and sisters at St John’s.
One of the things that struck us when we entered the area was the lush green grass paddocks and giant trees – a welcome change of scenery from the concrete jungle of Newtown. In the spirit of getting to know the area better, every day we’ll be gleaning Camden fun facts from the locals. Camden fun fact #1: St John’s Camden has the largest clockwork machinery in the Southern hemisphere. Keep your eyes peeled for a video of me climbing the steep stairs to check it out!
Please pray for:
- St John’s Camden to be bold and courageous in inviting non-believing family and friends to upcoming evangelistic events: Youth Group on Friday night, Men’s Breakfast on Saturday morning, Women’s High Tea on Saturday afternoon, and next Sunday’s services.
- For the Moore students to be servant-hearted and prepared to take on unprepared tasks as they come up.
- For all of us to be prepared to give a reason for the hope that we have in Christ Jesus, especially as we share our testimonies.
