Day two began bright and early at Jannali, with a small group of students meeting with the 8am congregation, including Scott preaching and Jayne giving her testimony. Following this, 10am church was a great opportunity for Paul Searle to effectively tribalise the church with his kids spot, in which the various groups of people who chose either to follow or to reject Jesus were represented by the Sharkies supporters (the scribes and Pharisees) and the St George supporters (the tax collectors and sinners), and Jesus himself was revealed as a die-hard Manly fan, much to the dismay of the vast majority of the congregation (the notable exception being Cameron, the youth minister). The gospel message, however was clearly explained, and Sharks fans were later delighted to feel a sense of vindication, having soundly thrashed the Knights that afternoon. David also preached from Mark 2, Jason gave his testimony, and children and youth were led and taught again by Brie, Katherine, Vanessa and Hannah.
Paul White also spoke at the service at the Chesalon nursing home, and some members visited homes that had recently been sold in the area with invitations to church, which were generally well received.
The final activity for a busy second day of mission was the youth service, Sunday Night Live (SNL), followed by youth dinner and Evening Church. The team was able to participate in the launch of Christianity Explored at SNL, and to sit in on discussion groups being run by a great team of youth leaders. Peter preached from Mark 1:1 on why Jesus is worth exploring, and Tom shared how he’d come to believe that Jesus is true as well as good.
Dinner together was a great chance to get to meet some youth and leaders over burritos, followed by night church. John preached on Mark 2 and Mel gave a very memorable testimony that challenged people to consider what was truly at the centre of their universe. A night of encouraging gospel conversations for many team members ended a full and exciting weekend of ministry for Team Jannali.
