Day three of mission in Jannali saw our first team meeting! It was great to review the weekend of ministry and to have David encourage us with a section from Bonhoeffer’s ‘Life Together’, as well as an opportunity to reflect and pray individually.
We then jumped into another Christianity Explored launch, during which time several women on team were able to join in table group discussions with women about their experience and understanding of God, Jesus and Christianity, and were able to share about the best news they have received. Twenty kids aged 0-5 were also cared for in a very busy creche, and other students were given the opportunity to hear from Cameron (youth minister) and Lauren (children’s’ minister) about their experiences and aims in ministry. Cameron also introduced an element of team building into the morning, challenging the group to construct an igloo in less time than his group of year ten students had taken. Although we didn’t manage to break that record, the task certainly gave us more than enough to consider and talk about in terms of our abilities in working together, taking initiative, and listening to one another!
After lunch, we were privileged to meet with a group from the church who have been meeting each week this year to pray for this mission week, and to join together with them. We were hugely encouraged and challenged by their faithfulness.
In the afternoon the team helped to run two Kids Clubs, Skittles for K-2 and Jacks for 3-5. Bek spoke at Skittles from Acts, and Katherine spoke at Jacks about how we know that what we believe is true. It was great to spend time chatting and playing with the kids at both groups, and learning from the experience and wisdom of their leaders. At Jacks, we had a great afternoon playing treasure-themed games that culminated in a chaotic but thankfully accident-free treasure hunt through the church.
Many team members were also invited to homes for dinners in the evening, providing a great opportunity to speak words of truth into people’s lives and to share together with them.
Please continue to pray for us as we teach SRE in many local schools, speak with mums and Playtime, are involved in chaplaincy at Chesalon, and participate in more Christianity Explored groups tomorrow, that the gospel message would be clearly proclaimed in our words, and supported by our actions.
