After a Monday spent planning, Tuesday was set to be jam-packed! The team began with a devotion time in Ephesians 2, meditating on God’s great love towards us and praying for the good works He had prepared for us to do today.
Most of the ladies on the team then went to a ladies craft morning tea, Creative Connections. Ami and Danae sang ‘Amazing Grace’ then Danae unpacked the story behind the song and how grace was shaping her life. The ladies and one brave man then unpacked their craft kits and got to work.
Most of the men on team had headed across the road to the local primary school to run scripture classes. The kids were super-excited when three new teachers came into their classroom. The teacher told them that if they were good, we might come back. Which made us feel slightly guilty but it did make them behave and sit up and listen. Dan showed a year four class how to build a mini-temple and explained how the temple is a sign that God is with us. Nick told the story of David choosing Solomon to be king and pointed to Jesus as the true king.
We all came back together for lunch and door-knock training. By mid-afternoon we were armed with our pamphlets, highlighted maps and fluoro-green shirts, ready to hit the streets. Our team found many ‘do not knock’ signs on doors. Apparently an electricity company had found that their competition was knocking on doors and stealing their customers, so they sent these signs around to warn off competitors. It warned us off many of the houses on our route.
We met a few people who were at home and not heaps interested. And then we met a lady who was very interested to tell us her life story. She’s had a pretty tough run of life but still says that she believes in God and takes one day at a time.
Tuesday evening was spit between K-zone and the Manna van. We met at the community centre where the van was parked out the front and provided burgers to people from the local community. The kids met in the hall for their usual K-zone activities, run by the mission team. One little girl came for the first time with her dad and the other five kids were regulars. We had a curriculum to run with and were up to the ‘Confession’ of the Lord’s prayer. Erin gave a short talk with Carol’s testimony through it; times when she said sorry to God and how she repented with a U-turn in her life. The faithful ladies had pulled out another great meal which we shared after discussing confession in small groups. Emma and Nick ran some fun games.
Then the enthusiastic Moore team headed up to Mount Keira for the night view with Mark acting as tour guide.
