An exciting day in which literally hundreds of Redfern and Green Square residents had some form of contact from, or interaction with, one1seven church.
If you happened to be in years 3 to 6 at Alexandria Park School, this would have come in the form of a Scripture class led by Fi and Murray, who illustrated the crucial difference between earning a reward and accepting a free gift. We pray these children will always know and love the truth that God gives us salvation as a free gift!
If you belonged to a Tuesday night Mission Group – or even better, had been invited along by a Christian friend – you would have had the excellent opportunity to come to a combined Q&A night and ask Ed and Miriam anything that intrigued you about the Bible or Christian faith. Questions ranged from “What is unique about Christianity?” to “Why doesn’t God put a stop to IS?” to “How can I have a relationship with God when I can’t see him?” The event was well received with many keen to run a repeat version soon!
If you were dropping by Coles in East Village, Zetland, between 3pm and 9pm then chances are you would have been greeted by a friendly mission team member (if the Hello Fresh brigade didn’t manage to intercept you first) inviting donations of food and toiletries to the Anglicare Winter Appeal. After a slowish start, the collection steadily gained momentum and we were encouraged by the generosity of many shoppers, some of whom dropped off multiple bagfuls of items and others who went back into the store even after completing their shop because they hadn’t seen us on the way in. By the end of the night we were able to pack two carloads of goods to be distributed to the disadvantaged and needy in our city.
And if you didn’t make it into any of the above categories, then you likely would have received an invitation flyer in your mailbox for the one1seven Trivia Night this Saturday. A great opportunity to get the whole mission team on deck simultaneously, because believe me, there are a LOT of mailboxes around here.
Please pray that these points of contact, whether personal or anonymous, brief or extended, would be used by God to make Christ known in South Sydney. Pray too that the team would recharge well on our split days off and be reinvigorated for what remains of the mission. Thank you!
