Every Thursday morning St John’s runs a Women’s Church. It is a fantastic opportunity for women to gather and worship God with their sisters in Christ. For some, it is their only chance to attend a church as attending church on a Sunday is not possible. The theme for this term is ‘Strong and Courageous’ as the women look through the book of Joshua. They like to deck out the hall to suit the theme:
Beth filled in for their usual segment on a courageous woman in history by sharing about Anne Bradstreet, a woman who found her strength and courage in her hope in God. Beth chose her not because her strength and courage came from influencing millions or bringing about great change in the world, but rather because she cared for her 8 children and had a living hope in the true God. When tragedy struck and her house burnt down, Anne penned a beautiful poem about how her heavenly home will last forever. You can read the poem here: http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems-and-poets/poems/detail/43707
Liz gave a talk on Joshua 6-7 and spoke of God’s trustworthiness and the right response of trusting and obeying in him. She looked at the characters Joshua, Israel and Rahab and looked at how they each trusted in God’s perfect track record and were therefore able to obey his command.
Afterwards the women split into small groups to run through their bible study on Joshua. Moore mission women joined different groups and were gifted with a Women’s Church mug each! We were warmly welcomed and joined in their discussion. We are so encouraged by this ministry and the opportunity it provides for the women to build each other up in Christ.
Please pray for:
- the ministry of Women’s Church and for the maturing of women as they study the bible together
- Debbie Galea who runs this ministry and for the lay preachers to keep presenting the gospel faithfully each week
Camden fun fact #5: There is an excellent coffee place close by to St John’s. It is called R. Coffee Co. The Moore Mission team have been frequenting it this week!
