Greg shares just one of many interesting experiences out door-knocking in Figtree.
This afternoon we went to Redgum Ridge, a new housing estate up on the hills above the church. There I realised how affluent they were. The had huge houses up on the face of the mountain. We were a bit intimidated. We went to the front doors, and the doors were bigger than your standard door. They were at least 1.5 times the size of a standard door. Rob thought they were doors for the Nephilim. It was amazing. You don’t use keys, you use swipe cards. It was like something out of Back the Future 2.
So I pressed on one of the doorbells and it had a massive camera lens in it. Erin and I thought that no one was home so we were about to walk off, but then we heard a buzz.
“Hello”, someone said.
“Oh, oh, hello” we replied. “Uh, hi, how are you going?”
“Yeah good”, she called. “Sorry, who are you?”
“We’re from Figtree Anglican. We’re just here to tell you about some of the events that are happening this Sunday.”
“Oh, okay. I can’t come down!”
“Oh. Where are you?”
“I’m upstairs bathing my little daughter.”
“Uh, okay.”
“Yeah, I’m in the bathroom and I can’t come down.”
“Oh, okay.”
“How about you leave your information downstairs.”
“Uh, okay. How about we come back and talk to you later?”
“Uh, no no no no, that’s okay. I’ve gotta—”
And then this scream came over the intercom.
“—STOP THAT! STOP THAT!”
This was really awkward. We’re just listening on the intercom.
“Okay, well, we’re going to go.”
The intercom shuts off. That’s the end, and we walk off. She received the flyers, and we’re content we made a connection.
