Today was our day off so we enjoyed a visit to Warrgamba Dam and learned a lot about water at the Visitor’s Centre. The weather was so beautiful and we had a lovely time relaxing, eating, playing kubb and frisbee… and skipping!
Water is pretty great
Lyndon being told about how great water is
Michelle visited her husband Brian and brought along their adorable bub and delicious homemade cookies!
Playing kubb and learning that Keith Condie is a force to be reckoned with…
… and Cathy Smith too!
Grahame Smith skipping along (priceless footage!)
Jen eating pork knuckle the size of her head! (and actually finishing it too…)
Those on the Children’s and Youth team headed off for afterschool group, Kids Plus and St John’s youth group.
The St John’s youth held an evangelistic night and many youth invited their friends. The youth group have been looking at pop music this term and evaluating the lyrics through the lens of the gospel. The Moore Mission team took the reigns and ran the night.
Tom ran the ice breaker game that got all 55 people moving – it involved sticking a post-it note on your forehead with a name or object on it. The game was a great way to shake hands and get to know the names of people while looking a bit silly!
Lyndon gave a great talk on Bruno Mars’ “Grenade”. It is a song about a man’s sacrificial love that is unrequited. Lyndon explained that we see this sacrificial love from God toward us displayed on the Cross of Jesus. He pointed us toward Romans 5:6-8:
“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
The gospel was communicated clearly and grace was spelled out. Afterwards, we got into small groups to discuss the talk and God’s love for us. Many youth were challenged by the fact that they don’t live out their faith, others wondered if Jesus really knew and died for them personally and still one other finally understood grace and surrendered his life to Jesus! Praise God for the way he worked in the hearts of the youth last night.
Please pray for:
- the ministry of Kids Plus and St John’s youth group to continue faithfully teaching the gospel and seeing lives transformed by it
- youth who were challenged by God’s sacrificial love for them, to repent and believe in Jesus
