Day 5 and 6 saw the carnival team pick up some additional opportunities in the Macarthur region. Day 5 took us to Eagle Vale to hear how the church there is trying to reach Claymore and Eagle Vale. On Friday we spent time in Ingleburn and Minto.
Most of us hadn’t heard of Claymore before, but it is famed for being one of the most socially deprived areas in NSW. The Carnival and Muslim Ministry teams joined together to go door knocking to inform people about what’s happening at Eagle Vale Anglican and see what sort of conversations we could have. There is also a large redevelopment going on in this suburb which will dramatically change its reputation in the coming years. Pray for the residents of Claymore, that many would come to find lasting hope and joy in the Lord Jesus.
Following a successful, if not rainy appearance of the Kids Carnival at St Peter’s Campbelltown, some of us headed back to Eagle Vale Anglican for their self defence outreach (!). Recent Moore graduate Stephen Thurgar put the 20 or so locals, and the few members of the mission team who went along, through their paces. It was particularly encouraging to see how many stayed for the family Bible time after the class. The outreach attracts 20-30 people each week and has plans to expand. Pray that the Lord would bless the labours of the team at Eagle Vale.
On Friday we spent time in Ingleburn hearing about how God has been using the saints at St Barnabas to grow his church. It was great hearing about how the team have shaped their year to include seasons of engaging, evangelism, establishing and equipping and how this has helped many come to faith since it was implemented in 2009. The team were encouraged by the faithfulness of Joe Wiltshire and his commitment to theologically grounded gospel ministry. Later that night we came back for an evening of music and hearing short talks about who Jesus is given by some of the team. Pray that the Lord would see fit to continue using this church to reach those lost in sin and to build up those who have been established in Christ.
