Just like at Moore College, we had a chapel communion service at St Peters on Wednesday morning–but this was with all the Anglican clergy of the Northern Territory!
Our chaplain Ed Loane preached a great sermon on the Trinity. It was followed by a great breakfast cooked by some of our team.
Assembling for communion–at a clergy service you serve each other the Supper!
I met an elderly missionary, Barry Butler, who was one of the early missionaries in Darwin from the 1950s and taught at Nungalinya College with the first principal. Hearing the true stories of these faithful servants who have ministered in the Territory for decades was very encouraging.
Fellowship after the service
The team also served in Scripture classes at Nightcliff Primary School, Darwin High School and spent time helping CDChristians in evangelistic events at Charles Darwin University.
James Galea and Laura Graham faithfully taught the kindergarden children at Nightcliff Primary, while Matt Pearson, Jack and Kate Hamer taught the primary groups about Jesus taking the responsibility for our sins.
Kylie Yip and Kat Cowell helped lead the women’s Bible study group at St Peters, while the rest of the team (Joshua Lewis, Marcelo Morbelli, Jum Naden and Andy Yip) helped Tony Jenner’s group, CDUChristians, to evangelise at Charles Darwin University (CDU).
At the same time, Anthony Weiss, Phil Rademaker, Jenny Bradshaw and Tom Pountain helped evangelising at CDU for a half hour, before heading off to teach Scripture at Darwin High School.
At CDU we gave out free coffee and tea made by our coffee specialist Marcelo, and we also distributed free sausages to students and staff. In return we asked the students to fill out a survey called “The God Test”, and the event was quite popular. We received many survey feedback forms from those who were lining up for coffee or staying for a chat with the team.
The students at CDU were very culturally diverse from many nations, nearly every person that we chatted with came from a different country. There were students from Nepal, India, Pakistan, China, South Africa, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia and many other places. They all came from different religious backgrounds. Our team were surprised by the friendliness of the university students in Darwin, even the atheists were nice and relaxed to talk about God despite the different world view! So praise God for the great conversations.
A very tired Marcelo after serving many students coffee for over two hours, taking a small nap in the 5 minutes break in between two sessions of debrief and Bible study on Philippians.
Please pray that the university students who we talked to will follow up with CDUChristians, so that they will join in the discussion groups and learn more about Jesus.
Pray also for the energy levels of the team as they continue to serve faithfully for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus throughout the rest of the mission.
