Today we spent the day at James Cook Uni, working with the Christian Union. The strategy was simple – make pancakes for people and speak with them about Jesus.
And that is what we did. We turned up, started making some pancakes and got to meeting and talking with those who turned up. It being a uni campus, we had a giant jenga and slack line set up where we got to have fun with students as we got to know them. One member of the team, Chris T had a really long conversation with William, a Catholic exchange student whose been coming along to the CU talks. We also got to wander around the campus looking to talk with people about Jesus too, handing out flyers telling people about the talk later in the day and the Mark drama which will be performed next semester. Please pray that people would have had a positive interaction with the CU and would come along to the talks or the Mark drama later in the year, and pray for William that he would settle into life in Townsville and with the CU.
After a quick break in the afternoon (and a quick dash to the pool for some of our number), we reconvened at the uni for the afternoon talk. Dan spoke engagingly (not only because of his Scottish accent!) about putting the ‘self’ to death, and losing our lives for Jesus so that we might gain eternal life. His last words, quoting Jim Elliot, “he is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose” really challenged those in attendance to consider giving their whole life to Christ. Thank God for Dan’s talk and pray that we would all be those who put self to death and give up our all to follow Christ.
