Team Macarthur 2018: Pop-up Carnival Team
‘We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honour, but we in disrepute.’ 1 Cor 4:10 ESV
When the apostle Paul penned these words, he did so as a scathing indictment on the Corinthian church. You see, the ministry of the humble band of Paul and the other apostles was so unimpressive, so lowly, so… foolish, that those who prize wisdom and rhetoric and intellect could not possibly be associated with such a lowly bunch. They were fools for Christ.
This week, our team of 17 students and two chaplains will head out into parts of the Macarthur region to host a ‘pop up carnival’. There will be puppets, games, inflatables, sausage sizzles, obligatory Colin Buchanan songs and simple stories about Jesus, God’s son, who turned the wisdom of this world upside down. To many people the work of mission is foolish. It centers around a foolish message told by foolish people. Add to that the camaraderie that comes with running an after school kids club and you see that we literally are fools for Christ. Yet we are confident that it isn’t our wisdom or skill or the fun that we create that will bring about the salvation of many in Macarthur. Instead the true power, the true wisdom is in the one to whom the message belongs.
Please pray that God would bless our (hopefully) creative preaching of the gospel, and that many would see that Jesus is the one who died for sin, and the one who triumphed over death to bring life.
