Every morning this week, the Moore Mission team in Clovelly is giving away free Thankyou Water at bus stops around Clovelly – a gift from St Luke’s that will help fund clean water projects in the developing world.
An Early Start on a Rainy Morning
It’s an early start each morning to catch commuters as they wait for their bus. This morning, Mike Leite woke up at 5:45am, had a coffee and had to leave by 6:30am to meet the rest of the team (Lachlan Grice, Mike Taylor and Hank Lee) at St Luke’s Clovelly before 7am. They arrived at bus stops around Clovelly at 7am only to find it was raining.
“The rain was kind of helpful actually,” said Lachlan Grice. “Because it meant that people were lining up for the buses under the shelter. So we could camp out there with lots of bottles of water.”
How did people respond?
The team were at bus stops from 7-8am and gave out 120 bottles of ThankyouWater. They also invited people to Fun in the Park, a community event St Luke’s is running for Thank You Week this Saturday 29 March.
Mike Leite said, “People were quite receptive and Mike Taylor had a couple of pretty good conversations. He talked to one particular girl about the resurrection. I got to talk to a few Poms. I didn’t get to the resurrection, so I’m not as godly as Mike Taylor. But we talked about the football, so that’s pretty holy for Poms.
“We don’t want to seem pushy. We just want to say, ‘We’re the local church’, and we’re giving out some free water to let people know who we are. If that’s the aim, I think it’s a very good way to do it.”
Please pray for us
Members of the Clovelly team will be giving out water at bus stops each morning this week. We would love your prayers as we connect with people in the local community.
- Pray that God would energise us for early morning starts.
- Pray for positive interactions with people that might lead to greater awareness in the community of St Luke’s.
- Pray that people would be interested in what we’re doing and that God would open up opportunities for gospel conversations.
Thank you for praying for us!
