It has been a great start to the week for the mission team at St Luke’s! A small team of seven (Hannah, Daz, Kat, Ed, Lily, Topher and Pat) from the schools mission are in Dee Why at St Luke’s grammar school, an Anglican school with around 1000 students in years K-12. Already in the first 2 days we’ve been involved in the junior school chapel services and have run classes for year 7, 9, 10, 11 and 12. There is also a preschool (cottage) at the school that Hannah Ran a class for on Tuesday. It has been great to have had the chance to be involved in so many classes and a number of the team have remarked on how a good platform has been laid for deeper conversations with kids later on in the week.
Across the different classes, we’ve covered topics from the return of Jesus to the forces of evil in this world, the reliability of the Bible, the dangers of pornography, knowing God, the fulfilment of the Passover, the good news about Easter and been able to share our testimonies with hundreds of kids. The whole team has been struck by how engaged the classes have been and their willingness to ask questions. Pray that God would soften the hearts of students who were in all of these classes and that he would graciously use these lessons to bring kids into his kingdom!
Another highlight was a morning tea with Jan Robinson, the principal of the school. She was really generous in giving us her time and sharing with us her vision for the school and answering a lot of our questions about schools ministry. It is obvious that St Luke’s is committed to proclaiming the gospel and living out the gospel. As chaplain Rev French stressed to us, the School is always on mission; we have seen that this week and it is a privilege to be here and a part of the work God is doing here. Pray for the ongoing work of the gospel at St Luke’s, and for Jan and John as they lead the school in that work.
We have lots to be thankful for 2 days into mission! Give God thanks for all that we have been able to do so far and for all the opportunities we have had to be in classes and in chapel and around the playground. Thank God also for the way we are growing and working together as a team. There is a real sense of unity and we are having a great time! Pray that God would sustain us through the week and for more opportunities to share the gospel and to share our lives with students. Pray also for the lunchtime group, THE J, and chapel on Thursday, especially for Lily and Daz as they preach. It’s been an exciting start, please pray that this week and into the future for kids to be saved and God to be glorified at St Luke’s!
