What a great first day of mission in Oxley Vale and surrounds! I’m writing this while gazing out the window of my billet’s house into the gorgeous country sunset, breathing in the fresh autumn air..ahhh.
Our team went separate ways this morning as services were attended in Oxley Vale, Manilla and Somerton.
Oxley Vale: At OV we had Abe preaching on Ehud (Judges 3) and team members serving in sunday school with infants, primary, high school and creche aged children. Kids everywhere!! A special time was had with the high school group bible study with good gospel conversations on the topic putting trust and confidence in Jesus. The kids went away knowing something new and some prayed genuine prayers at the end.
Manilla: 4 team members attended Manilla Anglican with David Fisher. Paul preached on Philemon and the awesome news of God’s forgiveness. I was in charge of doing the ‘kids spot’ and had pulled together a rap for the memory verse. Unfortunately, the rap I organised turned out to be more of a tongue twister because the reference for the verse had more syllables than the verse itself but we had fun fitting “1 Corinthians 15:20” into the beat. The 8 children who attended were shy at first but they warmed to the leaders quickly and were engaged for the following kids program on the topic ‘Jesus is Alive’.
Somerton: 3 teams went out to Somerton which is about 40km north-west of Oxley Vale. Jordan preached on Luke 13:22-35 to a congregation of 15. His message was well received and everyone was ‘on for a chat’ afterwards. Gotta love country people.
After the services we were invited to a luncheon at the Carter home which overlooked a huge expanse of grass fields. It was a good chance to connect with some families from Oxley Vale church on a deeper level and build good relationships over a short period of time….and taste the first of what I’m sure will be many BBQs.
It’s really hot here!
