Planning and Rest! (Day 2)
After a good night chatting with our hosts and after a good night’s sleep, our team met in the morning to pray and plan for the SRE Easter assemblies/classes that we will be doing this week. We will be doing Scripture in three primary schools across 6 classes on Tuesday and Thursday. All of us don’t have much experience or expertise in kids’ ministry, but we looked hard at the material provided, pooled our collective wisdom together, and came up with a solid plan teaching kids about the resurrection story. This includes a drama with a superhero called the “Heroic Husky”! (Husky is the nickname for the suburb we are in, Huskisson)
Jack and Mellisa are both speaking at dialogue events through growth groups on Tuesday too, so they spent some time preparing what they would say..
Today was officially scheduled as a rest day, so we decided to take a break after lunch and head to Hyams Beach (listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the beach with the whitest sand in the world!), where we had a swim, read on the beach, and rested.
Gospel Generosity
One of the joys of our mission this year, is that our team of four can all stay in the same house. This is due to the generosity of our hosts, who have many rooms and have welcomed us in warmly. This has been really helpful for our team to bond, plan, and pray for our time on mission. Their generosity can only be described as an outworking of their gospel convictions, as they have left strangers here alone with their house while they are in Sydney for a conference. They also stacked the pantry so that we have plenty of breakfast supplies!
We have also been provided lunch by the church, and enjoy fellowship with different families each night who host us for dinner. We were all encouraged by our first dinner with people who not only opened their homes but their lives with us and spent time praying for our mission! The lady who hosted us shared how she started to get more involved recently organising mission activities, and how that has been a real motivation for her personal conversations with colleagues. It was timely to read 1 Th 2:8 this morning, as it really felt like what we had enjoyed about our relationship with the saints at Jervis Bay Anglican:
“So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us” – 1 Thessalonians 2:8
For Your Prayers:
- Praise God for the great examples of gospel generosity that we have enjoyed.
- Praise God for excellent planning, rest, and a productive day.
- Pray for energy to relate with joy to the community while putting on all our activities.
Day 3’s Plan –
