Iggy Wong is just minutes away from preaching the first sermon of mission week.
Iggy, what are you preaching this morning?
I’m preaching on Luke 18:9-14, the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector.
What’s the message for the congregation?
The main message that I’d like everyone to take home is that we aren’t accepted by God based on how good we are, but based on whether we’re humble before him, and defending fully on him. So I’m trying to make sure that comes across really strong.
What do you hope will happen in this church service?
My main aim, whenever I’m preaching is that people will be challenged to live with Jesus Christ as Lord. So that means for any of the non-Christians, the people who don’t know Jesus, to bow their knee, and realise that they can’t be accepted by him based on how good they are, but they need to humble themselves. But also for those who have been at church for a while, that maybe they are relying on themselves a little bit too much, they need to be humbling themselves, and relying on God more.
Today is the start of mission week, so encouraging people a little bit, to see that this is really good news that we need to be sharing with everyone. That’s another hope.
