Hi Mel, what have you been up to today?
I went to Playtime, which is a group where the church engages with the community of mums and young children up to 3 years old.
What’s one thing that you learned there?
There are so many mums around the place, and Playtime is such a valuable evangelism tool. Christian mums are maybe more tuned in to this reality, but singles don’t seem to be so much. It’s really an overlooked ministry. Mums are home all day with kids, so it’s a great way to build relationships with Christian mums and kids.
What can we be praying for Playtime?
Lots of people are needed to support and provide resources, so give thanks for them, and pray for people who are willing to serve. Pray that God would grant mums boldness to share about Jesus.
Thanks Mel!
What about you Jacquie, what have you been doing this morning?
I taught Year 4/5 Scripture from 1 Kings. We were looking at Solomon building the temple and how, this side of Jesus, God lives in us by his spirit.
What was a significant moment for you this morning?
During the lesson, Lauren, the class Scripture teacher and the church’s Children’s Minister, asked me what I knew about Jesus when I was in Year 4. I replied that no one had told me about Jesus yet, and I didn’t know him. That really surprised the kids.
So what can we pray for?
Pray that the kids in Scripture would tell their friends about Jesus!
Thanks Jacquie!
Jayne, where have you been all morning?
I went with the volunteer pastoral care worker, Lorraine, who is from Jannali Anglican, to visit at Chesalon. Lorraine ran a devotion with a group of seven residents and afterwards spent time chatting with them individually. We met with individuals, read the Bible and prayed with them, and talked about how they felt about being there.
What was your take away from the morning?
The main thing that came across was that people feel powerless and that they are frustrated that they can no longer do what they used to. Forming real relationships with people, like Lorraine has done, is so important, so they will confide what is on their hearts to her. I was really heartened by the fact that she read the Bible and prayed with many of them. I personally enjoyed hearing their stories, and seeing the person who is under the frail flesh.
What can we pray for Chesalon?
Pray for Lorraine as a volunteer, for energy and time to spend with the residents. Thanks for her amazing love for them.
